City of Austin proclaims September 12th as Parker Woodland Day!

SEPT. 12 IS PARKER WOODLAND DAY!!

Be it known that

Whereas,

Austin, Texas, is home to indie rock band Parker Woodland, which takes its name from the Southeast Austin intersection of Parker Lane and Woodland Avenue, and is celebrating five years of bringing emotional anthems and inspiringly energetic live shows to Austin, Texas, and beyond, and is now proudly releasing their full-length album There’s No Such Thing as Time on Austin’s Flak Records; and

Whereas,

Parker Woodland singer/bassist Erin Walter, guitarist Andrew Solin, and drummer Keri Cinquina have been hard-working members of the Austin music community for three decades, playing such venerable Austin institutions as KUTX Rock the Park, South by Southwest, the historic Hole in the Wall, Mohawk, and more; touring across Texas; hiring local talent to engineer, produce, promote, and design their releases, and bringing Austin music to the world via music videos and live-streaming concerts; and

Whereas,

Parker Woodland founder Erin Walter, a native Austinite, has served the Austin music community as board chair for Girls Rock Austin and Advisory Council member of the SIMS Foundation, as well as the wider community as a board member of Texas Impact and executive director of the Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry, where she utilizes Parker Woodland songs “Makeup,” “The World’s on Fire (and We Still Fall in Love),” and more in the work for LGBTQIA+ rights, justice and liberation; and

Whereas,

The Austin Chronicle called the band’s 2024 single “Makeup” an “anthem for an age,” and the Austin City Council wishes to express its deep gratitude to Parker Woodland for its outstanding dedication, inspiring music and performances, and unwavering commitment to enhancing the cultural vibrancy of our beloved city; and

Now, Therefore,

I, Kirk Watson, Mayor of the City of Austin, Texas,

do hereby proclaim

Sept. 12, 2024

as

Parker Woodland Day

In witness whereof, I have hereunto

set my hand and caused the seal of the City

of Austin to be affixed this 12th Day of

September in the Year Two Thousand Twenty Four
