BEST. ARTICLE. EVER.
Did we really used to be called First Grade Dads? Go read this article about Parker Woodland — our origins, debut EP, virtual tour, and more — over at the Columbia Tribune. Getting paper copies sent from Missouri to Austin for framing! Thank you Aarik Danielsen! Excerpt:
"The opening track, which sounds like something Joan Jett might have bashed out in a jam session with Fountains of Wayne, came to Walter in 2018. A former journalist, she surveyed the country — and the tenuous relationship between politics and truth — and wrote an anthem of defiant hope in the face of countless frustrations.
"Penned well ahead of the pandemic, Walter said the song has added meaning, reminding her of who and what she’s missing.
“Forget Your Face” follows, and a few frenzied opening bars bend toward breathing room. When the band kicks in again, it’s in for good, pumping rock ‘n’ roll blood.
“Later Than We Think” follows an agile bassline into a groove that’s equal parts U2, Talking Heads and pop-punk. Closer “Hit By a Bus” seizes life by the collar, handling mortality and dread with a mixture of winking humor and real anxiety.
"Following a unique design, Parker Woodland’s virtual tour will take Walter and Co. to 50 cities — the singer has already "visited" Canada twice along this digital route, she said. Among the venues: a women’s conference, get-out-the-vote rallies and a number of UU churches."
